Special Message – COVID-19
Our Response to COVID-19
Hello Camp Families!
We wanted to keep you updated about our plans for Summer 2021. This past year has been very difficult for everyone, including us here at Camp Piankatank, which means we all need camp now more than ever! We will continue to give more details about what our specific protocols will look like as we get closer to the summer, but know that we consider the safety and well-being of our staff and campers to be of utmost importance.
On February 17th Virginia’s Governor announced that overnight camps would be able to open for Summer 2021. It was so brief and devoid of explanation that we almost missed it. We were so excited that it literally brought us to tears! The next week on February 24th the Executive Order was updated, and the “Safer at Home” guidelines were updated and released. Since then our staff has been talking with the local health department and diligently working to update our own protocols based on these guidelines.
Below you will find links to documents that explain our protocols, and what you should do to comply. You also have probably kept up with the Governor’s releases, and are seeing the relaxing of mandates and orders each month. We will make updates to these documents as mandates that effect summer camps are released. Follow us on social media, and sign up for our e-mails so that you can get the most up-to-date information as soon as it becomes available.
Overnight Camp Parent Guidebook 2021
Our Day Camps are limited to groups of 20, and they will remain separated from the Overnight camps. We will have a daily symptom and temperature check, just like we did last summer. For those that were here, you’ll remember that it was very quick and easy.
If you have any questions about any of these protocols, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail. We understand that we can’t always please everyone, but please understand that we have to do certain things to be in compliance with the health department. We are happy to clarify any questions you may have.
More than ever, we want to see you all this summer! We love our campers and their families, and your health and safety is always one of our top priorities. We are not, and will not take that responsibility lightly. If we are allowed and we believe we can safely operate, then we want to have you all here. We have always believed that kids need camp, and we believe in the mission of camp. I believe that this year, more than ever, we all need camp.
Until we see each other again, stay healthy and stay safe. If there’s nothing else you remember, remember that we love you, and most importantly that God loves you, and that’s why we are here.
In His Service,
Steve Gourley, Director
